Director, Community Engagement
2013
Nashville-Chattanooga
The Director of Community Engagement will identify and establish authentic, mutually beneficial partnerships with community leaders and organizations whose work aligns with our key metric of 3rd-grade literacy and 8th-grade math. Kyla is also responsible for accelerating alumni network connectivity and working toward engaging alumni with key issues impacting education in our community.
Originally from New York, Kyla graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development in 2013. Kyla began her teaching career as a 2013 Nashville corps member. She taught 9th and 11th-grade math in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for four years, serving as a team lead for the Freshman Academy. Kyla received her Master of Education from Lipscomb University in 2014.
After teaching, Kyla spent one-year supporting college students before feeling called back into Nashville Public Schools. She then spent four years serving as a Communities In Schools Site Coordinator at an MNPS elementary school, serving on the leadership and attendance teams. As a Site Coordinator, Kyla supported the school in increasing community partnerships, increasing family support and engagement, identifying and removing barriers to consistent student attendance, and supporting the social-emotional needs of students.
